Effects of intracarotid injections of hypertonic solutions on arterial pressure in the rabbit.

چکیده
The intracarotid injection of hypertonie saline in the rabbit induces a brief drop in arterial pressure, followed by a somewhat longer pressor phase. The "osmoreceptors" activating these changes are related to the hindbrain and are not the elements responsible for releasing neurohypophysial hormones. The pressure changes are not prevented by vagotomy, deafferentation of the carotid body and sinus, adrenalectomy, or parasympathetic blockade. The blood pressure effects are interpreted as resulting from sequential inhibition and stimulation of medullary vasomotor centers by the hypertonic solutions.

Administration of Large Volume Hypertonic Solutions for Resuscitation of Hemorrhagic Shock in Rabbit
An animal model was designed to study the effect of large volume Hypertonic Solutions (HTS) for resuscitation following a hypovolemic shock. Resuscitation in hypovolemic animals was performed by infusion of 15 ml/kg of normal saline (group I), 5% sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) (group II), 5% sodium chloride (NaCI) and 7.5 % NaHCO3 1:1 VN (group III), 5% NaC1 (group IV), and 5% NaCl and 5% serum a...
متن کاملEffect of ATP-MgCl2-hypertonic solution (NaCl5%) administration on hemorrhagic shock
Introduction: In the recent years, effect of hypertonic solution in resuscitation of shock has been shown by clinical and laboratory studies. On the other hand ATP-MgCl2 is used for better tissue perfusion and cardiac output in shock. The aim of this study is evaluation of ATP-MgCl2 with hypertonic solution in resuscitation of hemorrhagic shock. Materials and Methods: In this experimental stud...
متن کاملReflex circulatory effects elicited by hypertonic and hypotonic solutions injected into femoral and brachial arteries of dogs.
IN THE COURSE of study of the circulatory and renal responses to rapid saltloading in dogs, it was noted that intra-arterial (and intravenous) infusions of small volumes of hypertonic saline solution produced pronounced alterations in the blood pressure and heart rate. Results of infusions into the femoral and brachial arteries of dogs form the substance of the present communication. The findin...
متن کاملCOMPARISON BETWEEN THE EFFECTS OF 5 PERCENT HYPERTONIC SODIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTION AND 0.9 PERCENT SODIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTION ON LEFT VENTRICUL AR CONTRACTION
Hypertonic saline solution can absorb part of the intracellular fluid volume into the extracellular space. The effects of this solution on the cardiovascular system are increased coronary flow and increased left ventricular contraction, without sympathetic system activation. This study was designed to assess the effects of hypertonic saline solution in open heart surgery and to compare it w...
متن کاملHYPERTONIC LACTATED RINGER\'S SOLUTION IN EXPERIMENTAL VASOGENIC BRAIN EDEMA IN RABBITS: EFFECT ON BLOOD PRESSURE, ELEC TROLYTES, BLOOD UREA NITROGEN , TOTAL PROTEIN CONCENTRATION, PLASMA OSMOLALITY, AND CEREBRAL WATER CONTENT
Hypertonic solutions play an important role in the treatment of tissue edema. Following the induction of experimental vasogenic brain edema by occlusion of the common carotid arteries in eight rabbits, the effect of hypertonic lactated Ringer's solution (subjects), vs. isotonic lactated Ringer's solution (control), was studied on blood pressure, electrolyte (sodium, potassium, and calcium) ...
